Parameterized Dashboard

Hi, my name is Kumar, and in this video I will demonstrate Parameterized Dashboard.

Dashboard Parameters can be used when it is necessary to pass data of a certain type to a Dashboard. For example, to pass a specific value to the Data Source, Filtering String, or a Calculated field. Now, we will see how to use Dashboard Parameters.

We will start with creating Parameters, then we will see how to pass parameter value, and then requesting parameter values. So, let us start with creating Parameters.

In iVend Management Console, go to Reports, then in submenu Designer Label select option Dashboard Designer. Click on New button, provide the Code and Description for your Dashboard, then click on Design Dashboard button. Now, provide the Data Source and then select the Data item. Let us take a grid, provide the columns dimensions as per your requirement.

Now, after this in Data Source tab, select the option Parameters. Here, click Add button to add new parameter, specify the settings, like Name, Description, Type, and then Value. Now, to create another parameter, click Add button again. Again, define the Name, Description for it, String, and then Value. Once done, click Okay to include the created parameters in the Dashboard.

Now, we will see how to pass parameter values to a Dashboard.

For that, go to Data tab and then select Edit filter. Here, you can compare a field value with 3 types of objects and these objects are Static Value, Another Field Value from Data Set, and Parameter Value.

For this demo, we will use Parameter Value. Click here to add condition and then select Add Condition. Select the Condition. Static Value is represented by this icon. You can click on this button to switch to the next item mode. So, let us click on it. Another field value is represented by this icon. Again, click on this button to switch to the next item mode and Parameter Value is represented by this icon. So, we will be using this.

Now, we will add another condition for second parameter. Add Condition and then select the Parameter which will be To Date this time. After this, click on Apply button and then Okay.

After this, we will request the Parameter Values. The Dashboard provides the build in Dashboard Parameters dialog which provides the capacity to change Dashboard Parameter values. This dialog is created automatically depending on the Parameter type and visibility setting.

So, invoke the Dashboard Parameter dialog in the Dashboard Designer. Click on the Parameter button in the Dashboard title. Click on this. Here, select the required parameter values and then click Submit and you will notice the changes as per the parameter values. In order to reset the changes to the default values, click this Reset button and then submit, and you will see the changes.

So, in this way, user can create parameters, pass parameter values, and request them.

With this, we end our session.

Thank you for watching this video.
